If Allah has decreed what the servant will do, then how can the servant be held accountable and punished for something Allah has predetermined for him?

Allah Almighty created in man strength and will, by which he can do or refrain from doing what he wishes. If a servant commits an act that necessitates punishment, he deserves it because he deliberately violated the command. Allah Almighty has linked things to their causes. Paradise, salvation from Hellfire, provision, and deprivation are all connected to their causes. Whoever enacts a cause will attain its effect, unless Allah wills otherwise. This is affirmed by evidence from the Quran, Sunnah, and reason. From the Quran, Allah Almighty says: "That is how We recompensed them for their disbelief, and do We recompense except the ungrateful?" and His saying: "And whatever misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned." From the Sunnah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Nothing prolongs life but righteousness, and nothing averts fate but supplication, and indeed, a man may be deprived of provision because of a sin he commits." As for reason, it indicates the necessity of causes for their effects, such as having a child through marriage, and satiation by eating food.
