What is the ruling on someone who buys a used item and reduces its price by half or more, claiming it is due to use, regardless of its condition? Is this permissible, and is it considered consuming people's wealth unlawfully if the seller is forced to sell?

The Sharia encourages leniency (samahah) in buying and selling due to the blessings it contains. Ibn Battal mentioned that leniency, good معاملة (dealings), and adopting noble manners are a cause for blessing. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed for mercy upon those who do so.

Ibn Hubayra explained that haggling (mushahah) indicates stinginess, and chivalry (muru'ah) necessitates leniency in buying and selling.

Regarding permissibility and prohibition: There is no sin upon the buyer for bargaining with the seller for any price, as long as the seller is aware of the prices and content with the price. What is forbidden is deception, fraud, and misleading the ignorant. Ibn 'Uthaymeen stated that profit is not determined by Sharia; whenever the buyer is content with the price, the sale is permissible, unless the buyer is ignorant of the prices, in which case it is not permissible for the seller to deceive him.
