Is it permissible to eat the meat of animals slaughtered by the People of the Book, knowing that they do not mention the name of Allah over them at the time of slaughter, despite knowing their method of slaughter is similar to Islamic slaughter, and based on His (the Almighty’s) saying: "And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned"?

If you are certain that a People of the Book did not pronounce the name of Allah over their slaughtered animal: if the omission of the pronouncement was intentional, the slaughtered animal is not permissible according to the majority of scholars, but is permissible according to Ash-Shafi'i. However, if it was due to forgetfulness, then it is permissible according to the four madhhabs.
