What is the ruling on playing chess and cards (Kutcheena) on the computer?

Playing chess is not permissible. Some scholars consider it even more forbidden than backgammon (nard), concerning which a Prophetic hadith describes its player as one who dips his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig. As for playing cards (koutchina), many scholars disliked it, and it becomes forbidden if it involves something prohibited, such as distracting from obligatory duties, inciting animosity, or playing for a wager.
