What is the legitimate age for a young man and woman to marry?

The legal age for marriage for a boy is when he reaches the stage where he is able to engage in intercourse. He should marry to lower his gaze and protect his private parts. Poverty should not be an impediment, as Allah Almighty says: "If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty." As for a girl, her marriage is sought when she is able to endure intercourse. It is permissible before that, provided she is not handed over to the husband until she is able to do so. Her guardian should hasten to marry her off if he finds a suitable suitor who possesses good character and religious commitment.
