What is the ruling on someone who finds himself in a predicament and falsely swears by Allah?

Swearing falsely is forbidden and considered one of the major sins. It necessitates repentance and the return of rights to their owners, and the majority of scholars hold that it does not require expiation. However, it may be permissible if there is coercion, or if the one swearing is oppressed and faced with a predicament that would cause harm to their person or property, and they are unable to escape it except by lying; for necessities permit prohibitions.
