It is the wife's right that her husband provides her with an independent dwelling. He is not obliged therein to separate her from his family if she has an independent dwelling with its facilities and a separate lock. It is not permissible for the wife to leave her husband's home without his permission, except out of necessity. If she leaves, she must return, and he is not obliged to bring her back. The husband should combine filial piety towards his parents with good companionship towards his wife, and he should prevent his family from harming her. If he is unable to do so, then he must move her to a dwelling where she will not be exposed to harm. It is a good quality of the wife to be kind to her husband's family and to overlook their mistakes.
