What is the ruling on a wife who left the marital home because she demanded a separate house, despite her prior knowledge of her husband's difficult financial situation, and a year and a half has passed since her absence, with a child whose father is deprived of him?

A wife must obey her husband in what is right. It is not permissible for her to leave his house without his permission, unless there is a valid excuse; otherwise, she is considered disobedient (nashiz) and loses her right to financial support (nafaqa). It is the wife's right that her husband provide her with a suitable, independent dwelling. There is no objection to it being in his parents' house if its facilities are independent. If the husband stipulates that his wife live in his parents' house and he is unable to provide an independent dwelling, then she has no right to demand an independent dwelling unless she incurs real harm. If the dwelling is suitable and causes no harm, the wife does not have the right to refuse to reside there; otherwise, she would be disobedient (nashiz), and the husband may then pressure her until she seeks divorce (khul'). However, if the dwelling is unsuitable or causes harm, the wife has the right to refuse to live in it.
