Is weeping out of reverence for Allah Almighty and fear of His punishment, coupled with striving to do good deeds and avoid forbidden acts, a righteous or reprehensible weeping?

A Muslim's weeping due to remembering his sins and shortcomings in fulfilling his duty towards Allah is a sign of good. As stated in the Hadith: "Two eyes will not be touched by the Fire: an eye that wept out of fear of Allah, and an eye that spent the night guarding in the way of Allah." It is advisable to read books on encouragement (targhib) and deterrence (tarhib) to combine hope and fear. Whoever is pleased by his good deed and displeased by his bad deed, that is the believer. Allah described His servants as combining fear and hope, saying: "They hope for His mercy and fear His punishment" and "They supplicate Us in hope and fear."
