What are the limits of the relationship between student and teacher, and is it permissible for a teacher to show great love and affection towards a student, even to the extent of kissing, especially if the student is the one who initiates the display of such love?

The teacher and the student are partners in education, and they must cooperate to make it successful through love and strengthening trust. The teacher should show mercy to his student, and the student should appreciate and revere his teacher with moderation, while each of them maintains sincerity to Allah and awareness of His watchfulness. Caution must be exercised to prevent the love between them from becoming an entry point for Satan. The permissible Islamic boundaries between them include shaking hands, cheerfulness, the student serving his teacher, and obeying him in what is good.
