Why are songs forbidden?

Songs are forbidden based on the Quran, Sunnah, and the sayings of the Salaf. The Holy Quran mentions "idle tales" (lahw al-hadith), which the Companions interpreted as singing, and the noble prophetic hadith prohibits "musical instruments" (ma'azif). It has been narrated from the four Imams that they disliked singing, considering it an act of the immoral and something akin to falsehood. The wisdom behind its prohibition lies in it being a means to fornication, diverting one from the remembrance of Allah, and cultivating hypocrisy in the heart.
