Does the reward for shortening (hair) differ based on the degree of shortening, meaning is it better for one who shortens his hair to a degree close to shaving, or is the matter equal?

Shortening the hair to exit the state of ihram varies in merit. Shaving off some hair from the roots is better than taking only the length of a fingertip. Imam Malik holds the view that taking from the ends of the hair is sufficient. The intent is to emphasize the desirability of reaching a degree that is close to the hair roots.
