Are credit cards forbidden, or are there permissible types among them?

The default ruling is that it is permissible to deal with credit cards if they are free from Sharia prohibitions related to interest on loans, such as interest charged for late payment, or lending for a fee, or contracting on such a condition. The Islamic Fiqh Academies and Sharia Boards have clarified the Sharia guidelines for credit cards.
