What is the ruling on eating frogs and snakes, and how should they be slaughtered if they are permissible to eat?

Frogs are impermissible to eat due to the prohibition against killing them, as narrated by Al-Bayhaqi from Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade the killing of ants, bees, frogs, shrikes, and hoopoes.

As for snakes, the three imams—Abu Hanifa, Al-Shafi'i, and Ahmad—agreed on the prohibition of eating them. The Malikis, however, differed, permitting their consumption if their venom was deemed safe and they were slaughtered according to Islamic rites. The prohibition is based on the poison they contain, which can harm their eater and may even lead to death, as Allah Almighty says: (And do not kill yourselves), and as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There should be no harm nor reciprocating harm."
