Is the Hadith "Indeed, there is an occupation in prayer," narrated in Bukhari from Abdullah, which indicates that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not return the greeting to him during prayer after he used to return it, abrogated?

There is a difference between a worshipper verbally returning a salutation and a person greeting a worshipper with salam. Verbally returning a salutation was permissible at first, then it was abrogated, and speaking during prayer became forbidden and prohibited. This is indicated by the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). As for greeting a worshipper with salam, scholars differed on this. Some disliked it, while others permitted it. It is authentically reported that the Companions used to greet the Prophet (peace be upon him) while he was praying, and he would respond to them with a gesture or after finishing the prayer. It is recommended for the worshipper to return the salam with a gesture, and this is the view of Al-Shafi'i and the majority. It is better not to greet a worshipper with salam, so as not to distract them from their prayer or cause them to err by responding verbally, which is not permissible for them.
