Is the feeling of hypocrisy when delighted by praise and commendation, or when imagining how people view your religiosity, real hypocrisy, and what is its remedy?

We have clarified the difference between ostentation (riya') and rejoicing at people's praise for good deeds, and how to rid oneself of rejoicing at people's praise. We recommend supplicating for sincerity and seeking refuge from ostentation. We also recall the Prophet's (peace be upon him) supplication to Abu Bakr: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from associating partners with You knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do not know."
