What is the ruling on greeting people outside the mosque while they are waiting for the funeral procession to emerge to accompany it?

There is no harm in greeting someone who approaches you; rather, it is encouraged. It is a right of a Muslim upon his brother to greet him when he meets him, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If you meet him, then greet him."
