Why are the lifespans of the Ummah of Muhammad shorter than the lifespans of previous nations?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The lifespan of the Prophet Muhammad's nation (peace be upon him) ranges between sixty and seventy years, and this is due to Allah's wisdom. Scholars have mentioned several reasons for this, including:

- Allah's mercy upon this nation, so they do not become insolent and arrogant like previous nations.

- Easing the reckoning on the Day of Judgment and hastening entry into Paradise.

- Encouraging diligent striving in good deeds during this short lifespan.

- Multiplying their rewards compared to previous nations through times when rewards are doubled, such as Laylat al-Qadr and the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

These are all scholarly interpretations, and Allah knows the complete wisdom. It is incumbent upon the servant to strive to fill their time with what benefits them in this world and the Hereafter.
