The answer

The preponderant opinion is that perfumes and creams containing alcohol are impure (najis) and their use is impermissible unless they undergo a complete transformation (istihalah). If the presence of alcohol is strongly suspected, they must be avoided. As for work involving the manufacturing of forbidden substances, such as cheeses containing whiskey, it is not permissible, except in cases of extreme necessity, coupled with a serious effort to find alternative employment. It is not permissible to enter the bathroom with a chain bearing Ayatul-Kursi. Residing in non-Muslim lands is not permissible except out of necessity.
