Is it permissible for me to burden the son with his father's debt?

The son of a debtor is not obligated to repay his father's debt. Rather, if he does, it is considered a voluntary act of piety and benevolence towards his father. The creditor is not permitted to compel the son to repay the debt. He may demand it from the debtor himself, or request the son to pay it voluntarily. If the son pays it willingly, it is permissible to accept it; otherwise, it is not.
