What is the ruling on performing a hysteroscopy and taking a sample of fetal hair at 20 weeks of gestation, with the possibility of fetal loss, in order to diagnose a fatal genetic disease that affects male fetuses?

It is not permissible to proceed with fetal screening after twenty weeks of gestation because it may result in complications leading to the loss of the fetus. Moreover, if it is confirmed that the fetus is afflicted, it is not permissible to abort it, as it has reached five months and exceeded the stage of ensoulment. The fact that the child might be born with a disease that could lead to his death after two years does not justify abortion.

Furthermore, the screening may result in complications leading to the death of the fetus, and this is considered killing a soul unjustly.

One should submit to the command and decree of Allah, for Allah is more merciful to the fetus than its parents. Perhaps Allah intends to reserve a great reward and immense recompense for the parents. It has been mentioned in hadiths the virtue of patience in the face of losing children and entering Paradise as a result thereof.
