How can one balance the necessity of strictness in dealing with non-Muslims in Western countries to protect against exploitation, with maintaining a soft heart and humility before Allah the Almighty?

The believer is characterized by gentleness and mercy towards fellow believers, and severity towards disbelievers and hypocrites, as stated in the Holy Quran. Ibn al-Qayyim said that the heart of a believer combines tenderness and benevolence towards creation, purity of insight, and firmness in Allah's command and defending the truth. These qualities are complementary, and a believer should not prioritize one aspect over another. Rather, they must embody all of them to achieve perfection in faith, while seeking Allah's help to accomplish this.
