What is the ruling on using parents' belongings without their permission?

If items are tools that are not damaged by use and can be used by several people without harm, then there is no sin upon the son for using them without his father's permission, unless the father explicitly forbids it. This is supported by the Hadith of Ibn Abbas. However, if the items are such that their owner would likely not allow others to use them, then it is not permissible to use them. If the assets are consumable, the general rule is that it is not permissible for the son to take from his father's money except with his permission, unless the father does not provide for the son while being able, and the son is unable to earn and spend on himself. In this case, he is permitted to take what is sufficient according to what is customary, without his father's knowledge. The proof for this is the Hadith of Hind bint Utbah.
