Is it permissible for a female student to participate in discussions and explanations in mixed-gender lectures?
It is not permissible for a woman to work or study in a mixed-gender university due to the corruption that results from it. Obedience to parents in mixed-gender study is not obligatory because there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. It is permissible for a woman to speak with non- men out of necessity, provided that her speech is serious, without submissiveness or incitement, for her voice is not awrah, but rather we are forbidden from being submissive in speech. A woman in a mixed environment should minimize evil as much as possible, so she should not converse with men except out of extreme necessity, and she must adhere to complete modesty.
