Is Zakat due on the olives or the olive oil produced by farmers in Morocco, and what is its specific amount?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
The obligation of on olives is the opinion of many scholars. It is stipulated for its obligation that the olives reach the nisaab (minimum threshold), which is five awsuq. The Zakat is taken out from the olives after they are pressed. The evidence for its obligation is the saying of Allah Almighty: {And give its due on the day of its harvest}, and the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "On that which the sky waters, is a tenth." The amount that must be given is a tenth if the land is irrigated by rainwater, and half a tenth if it is irrigated at cost.
