Does being in a state of Janabah (ritual impurity) while sleeping spoil a vision or a dream?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no evidence in Islamic law from the texts of revelation or the statements of scholars that ritual impurity (janabah) has a negative effect on dreams. Sleeping while in a state of janabah is permissible. However, it is preferable for a person in a state of janabah to perform ablution (wudu') before sleeping, based on Aisha's statement: "When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was in a state of janabah and intended to eat or sleep, he would perform ablution like that for prayer," and based on the Prophet's, peace and blessings be upon him, statement to Umar ibn al-Khattab: "Perform ablution, wash your private parts, then sleep."
