What is the ruling on listening to national anthems?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no difference between national songs and other types of songs in terms of Sharia rulings. All of them contain what is permissible and what is forbidden, depending on the presence of musical instruments, the meaning of the lyrics, the manner of performance, and whether it is performed by a man or a woman. The singing that is forbidden to listen to is that which involves musical instruments, or is performed by someone whose voice is alluring, or instigates immorality and includes flirtatious movements, or involves doing something impermissible, such as openly admiring beautiful people. What is permissible to do is permissible to listen to, and what is forbidden to do is forbidden to listen to.
