Is it permissible to pray at home and then perform a supererogatory prayer or stand behind an imam who practices divination and fortune-telling, there being no other mosque, out of a desire not to be deprived of the reward for going to the mosque?

It is impermissible to pray behind a person who practices soothsaying and divination, because claiming knowledge of the unseen expels one from the fold of Islam. If the worshipper has no alternative but to pray behind this man, except to pray at home, then he should pray at home and try to find someone to pray with him to attain the virtue of congregational prayer. He must verify what is said and not attribute to a Muslim anything that expels him from the fold of Islam unless he is certain.
