Is doubt about the occurrence of a return (rajʿah) after divorce considered valid?
Excessive divorce falls under mockery of Allah's verses, which is forbidden, as Allah Almighty says: "And do not take the verses of Allah in mockery." The majority of scholars and the four madhhabs hold that a bid'i (innovative) divorce is valid, and accordingly, the wife becomes unlawful for her husband and does not become lawful for him again until she marries another man with a valid marriage and he then divorces her after consummation. However, Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah is of the view that an innovative divorce necessitates only one revocable divorce.
As for reconciliation (raj'ah), it is not established except with certainty, and the default is its non-occurrence. Doubt about its occurrence means that it has not taken place.
