What is the ruling on gifts, expenses, and the dowry after the marriage contract and before consummation, given that the husband discovered his wife had a previous relationship, and her family concealed that from him?

The Noble Qur'an came as a healing for every matter that afflicts people in their religious or worldly affairs. It commanded verification of news, especially when receiving news from a transgressor (fasiq), as clarification is necessary before acting. The young man who claims a relationship with the wife is a transgressor, whether he is truthful or a liar. Therefore, it is advised to disregard his words and keep the wife, especially since "one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin."

As for divorce, the husband must fulfill all of his wife's rights completely, and there is no blame on her family for concealing such news. If he has not consummated the marriage, she is entitled to half of the named dowry. If no dowry was named, she is entitled to a compensatory gift (mut'ah) according to the husband's circumstances. If he has consummated the marriage, she is entitled to the full dowry. As for the gifts that were received, they have become her property, and it is not permissible to revoke them except with her consent, because revoking a gift is forbidden.
