The answer

Casting four stones while mentioning the names of angels to locate a lost item is a superstitious practice of charlatans, and may involve seeking assistance from jinn. This is a dangerous matter for a Muslim's belief and a form of minor (polytheism), because it makes something that is not a cause into a cause. Allah the Almighty said: (Say, "Then have you considered what you invoke besides Allah? If Allah intended me harm, would they remove His harm? Or if He intended me mercy, would they withhold His mercy?" Say, "Sufficient for me is Allah; upon Him rely those who rely.") [Az-Zumar: 38]. So, whoever believes that something which is not a cause is a cause has associated partners with Allah the Almighty in His judgment. Whoever makes something a cause when it is neither a natural nor a prescribed cause, and becomes attached to it, commits minor shirk. This method is not permissible, and whoever performs it falls into minor shirk, and must repent to Allah.
