Is it permissible to marry a young man who works as a receptionist in a usurious bank, knowing that he prays and is committed, and could not find another job due to his tribe's circumstances, and has applied for another job?
It is not permissible to work in interest-based banks, even if the job is in security, reception, or service, because it constitutes aiding in sin and transgression, and because working there entails consenting to it. Allah Almighty said: (And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the one who consumes interest, the one who pays it, the one who writes it, and its two witnesses. If the suitor insists on working in an interest-based bank, one should not marry him because ill-gotten gains have a negative effect on the wife and children, and the Fire is more deserving of every body that grew from unlawful earnings.
