The answer

It is not possible to issue a general ruling on the permissibility or impermissibility of investment funds. However, there are controls for the legality of participating in them:

1. The profit share between the capital owner and the fund manager must be common knowledge and agreed upon, not a fixed amount.

2. No guarantee of speculative capital; the loss is borne by the capital owner, and the speculator loses his effort.

3. The fund's activities must be permissible, not prohibited.

4. The company should not deposit its money in interest-based banks to add their interest to the shareholders' profits.

If the funds do not adhere to these controls — which is often the case — then participation in them is not permissible, due to their impermissibility and because it constitutes aiding in sin and aggression.
