Is the presence of veiled girls with young men in mixed-gender universities permissible, especially since most of the subjects taught therein are neither obligatory nor recommended for them? Is it incumbent upon a student to denounce them for their presence in such a place due to its prohibitions, such as occupying the minds of men with women? And what is the fundamental ruling on girls entering universities?

It is not possible to rule definitively that a woman studying in co-educational universities is forbidden (haram), because the original ruling concerning her learning and presence with males is permissibility, unless there are circumstances that lead to temptation (fitna) and corruption. If the girl and the boy adhere to the Shariah-compliant regulations in their interactions, there is no harm in that. However, if co-education inevitably leads to temptation and corruption, then the presence of both genders in the same institution becomes prohibited, because if refraining from what is forbidden cannot be achieved except by abandoning it, then abandoning it becomes obligatory.
