It is not possible to rule definitively that a woman studying in co-educational universities is forbidden (), because the original ruling concerning her learning and presence with males is permissibility, unless there are circumstances that lead to temptation (fitna) and corruption. If the girl and the boy adhere to the Shariah-compliant regulations in their interactions, there is no harm in that. However, if co-education inevitably leads to temptation and corruption, then the presence of both genders in the same institution becomes prohibited, because if refraining from what is forbidden cannot be achieved except by abandoning it, then abandoning it becomes obligatory.
