What is the ruling on supplicating between the call to prayer (adhan al-iqamah) and the opening takbir (takbirat al-ihram), and is it considered an innovation, or is it better to engage in the remembrance of Allah or to remain silent until the Imam says the takbir?

The remembrance of Allah is one of the greatest acts of worship, and among its merits is that Allah is with those who remember Him. If a servant remembers Him to himself, Allah remembers him to Himself. If he remembers Him in a gathering, Allah remembers him in a gathering better than theirs. And whoever comes to Allah walking, Allah comes to him running. It is sunnah for whoever hears the call (to prayer) to repeat what the muezzin says during the Adhan and Iqamah. It is recommended at the Maghrib Adhan to say: "O Allah, this is the approach of Your night and the departure of Your day, and the voices of Your callers, so forgive me." A Muslim may remember Allah with whatever he wishes after the Iqamah and before the Takbirat al-Ihram, without believing in the special virtue of a specific supplication at this time.
