What is the ruling on my prayer at work with a dog moving around the place and perhaps lying down where I pray?
The passage of a dog or its lying down in a place does not prevent prayer there, unless the dog's saliva, urine, excrement, or sweat touches the place. If a worshiper prays in such a place, knowing of the impurity, their prayer is invalid and must be repeated. However, if they were unaware of the impurity and only learned of it after the prayer, they do not need to repeat it. If the impurity is removed by the sun, wind, or transformation, prayer in that place is permissible. Dogs used to come and go and urinate in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and they did not sprinkle water over any of that. One can also bring a prayer rug to pray on if a clean place is not available.
