What is the ruling on one who says: "If my faith were weighed against the faith of the Ummah, my faith would outweigh the faith of the Ummah"?

The statement by a contemporary individual, "I am a friend of Allah," is a grave error indicating self-admiration. None of the people of religion ever said this about themselves. Rather, Umar said it about Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq with an authentic chain of narration (mawquf) attributed to Umar. As for what has been narrated as being مرفوع (marfu') to the Prophet, peace be upon him, it is weak.
