Is there a contradiction between the narrations of Al-Bukhari and Muslim for the hadith, "Faith has sixty-something/seventy-something branches," and what is the correct number of branches of faith?

The discrepancy in the number of branches of faith mentioned in the hadith does not invalidate it; rather, it is an explicit doubt expressed by the narrator, and it does not harm the meaning. Some scholars have attempted to reconcile the narrations or to give preference to one over the others. As for Ibn Hibban, he traced the meaning of the hadith and found that the mentioned number (79 branches) corresponds to what is stated in the Qur'an and Sunnah.
