What is the ruling on a customs official inspecting alcoholic beverages?
Customs collection in most countries involves taking people's money unlawfully, and it is considered among the forbidden levies (mukus), unless it is taken in exchange for specific services, or if the state has a weakness in resources and imposes them to meet the needs of its citizens' interests without transgression.
Based on this, one must first inquire about the ruling on working in customs. If the goods are forbidden, such as alcohol, then it is absolutely impermissible to deal with them, because anything that aids in their consumption or trade is forbidden, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And cooperate not in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty."
