The maintenance of the wife and children is obligatory upon the husband according to what is customary, and part of this maintenance is providing suitable housing. It is not permissible for the wife to take her husband's money without his permission to save it for buying a house, as she is entrusted with his wealth. It is permissible for her to advise him and urge him to be moderate in spending and to save money, and to warn him against bribery. The wife is not obligated to spend on the house from her private money, and what she earns from her work is her exclusive right, unless the husband stipulates something in exchange for allowing her to work. If the husband gives her money for her personal expenses, she may save what remains without his knowledge. However, if it is for household expenses, she may not save anything from it except with his permission.
