The answer

Some scholars have stated that a person dealing in mixed stocks is obligated to purify the profit he obtains from buying and selling these shares, because the mixed nature of the company's activities contributes to the rise in their prices. Purification is done by extracting the forbidden percentage from the profit and spending it on the welfare of Muslims or for the poor and needy. Thus, if there is a profit from selling a mixed stock, the percentage of the forbidden part must be removed from it, and a subsequent loss in a pure stock is not to be considered. As for pure stocks, nothing is required from them.

We point out that IslamWeb (Ash-Shabakah Al-Islamiyah) leans towards the view of prohibiting the purchase of shares in mixed companies.
