Which is better: seeking forgiveness one hundred times without focus, or ten times with focus?
Reciting a small amount of (remembrance of Allah) with contemplation of its meanings and understanding of its objectives is better than reciting a large amount without contemplation. This is because contemplation is a religiously enjoined requirement in dhikr and Quranic recitation, as worshipping Allah is the intended purpose of both. Thus, reading one verse with reflection is better than completing a full recitation without contemplation, as it is more beneficial for the heart and leads to faith and tasting the sweetness of the Quran. Therefore, one must be keen on the presence of the heart and contemplating the meanings of dhikr.
