What is the meaning of the word "religion" (دين): linguistically and terminologically?

In the Arabic language, the word "deen" (religion) carries several meanings: sovereignty and authority, method, judgment, the law that Allah has approved for His servants, humility and submission, and recompense. As for its technical (Shar'i) definition, it is: what Allah has legislated for His servants in terms of rulings.
