Is it permissible for a government employee to work 24 hours a day, and what is the ruling of Islamic law on that?
A servant of Allah should strive to seek provision and utilize the means to do so, in order to be independent of people and to provide for those under their care. Allah has commanded this in the Quran. However, one should not overexert themselves with work. Instead, time must be allocated for rest, for learning about religious and worldly matters, for worship and contemplating the Quran, and for family and children. If one enters into a contract with a company to work all day, they are obligated to fulfill it. Employers, however, should not exploit the worker's need nor burden them with more than they can bear, as overworking an employee diminishes their productivity.
