What is the expiation for a person who swore two identical oaths and then lied in them or did not fulfill them: Does he expiate for one oath or for two?

If a person repeats an oath concerning a single matter for emphasis and then breaks it, only one expiation is required, unless the intention was to establish new, distinct oaths, in which case an expiation is due for each oath. However, if one swears an oath about something they know to be false, this is a "ghamūs" (perjurious) oath, for which there is no expiation; rather, repentance is obligatory. Imam Al-Shafi'i, however, mandated expiation in addition to repentance for such an oath.
