The expiation for a false oath (al-yamin al-ghamūs) is sincere repentance to Allah Almighty, by abandoning it, regretting it, and resolving not to return to it. Some scholars have held that an expiation for an oath is obligatory in addition to repentance. The expiation for an oath is clarified in Allah Almighty’s saying: "So its expiation is the feeding of ten poor people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or freeing a slave. But whoever finds not [the means to do so] – then a fast of three days." And he who repents of a sin is like one who has no sin.
