What is the ruling in Islam on being insolent toward the Noble Messenger?
The Quran, , and scholarly consensus indicate that slandering Muhammad (peace be upon him), belittling him, or mocking any aspect of his Sunnah is a major act of disbelief (kufr akbar) that expels one from the fold of Islam. This is based on the Almighty's saying: "And if you ask them, they will surely say, 'We were only indulging in idle talk and play.' Say, 'Is it in Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?' Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief" (At-: 65-66). Scholars have unanimously agreed that whoever insults the Messenger (peace be upon him) or belittles him is a disbeliever, and his ruling is execution. And whoever doubts his disbelief and punishment has disbelieved.
