Is there zakat on an employee's salary?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
For the zakat on salaries and all other cash assets, there are two conditions: the money must reach the nisab (the minimum threshold liable for zakat), and a full lunar year must pass while the money is in one's possession. The easiest way to calculate its zakat is to look at what remains of the salary after the year has passed. For example, whoever has saved the nisab from a Ramadan salary should pay its zakat in the following Ramadan. It is also possible to assign a separate hawl (lunar year) for all savings from each month, but this method is more difficult.
