1 min readAlso available in العربية

A fasting person avoids things that invalidate the fast, such as eating, drinking, intercourse, intentional vomiting, and masturbation. For women, menstruation and post-natal bleeding [also invalidate it], as does the intention to break the fast. They also avoid the afflictions of the tongue, such as backbiting and slander, and looking at or listening to what is forbidden.
