The sufficient for - which is the washing of the entire outer body with water - is sufficient for wudu, and prayer is valid with it, as are acts requiring purity, such as the rituals of Hajj, based on the Almighty's saying: "{And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves.}" Scholars have unanimously agreed on its desirability before ghusl, following the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
